San Jose, Calif.-----Adrian Oliver was on fire again for San Jose State with a game-high 33 points as the Spartans knocked off Hawaii, 83-60, for their third straight win in Western Athletic Conference action. The 6-foot-4 guard was 12-of-18 from the field including 3-of-3 from 3-point range and made all six of his free throws for his sixth game of the season of 30 or more points. Center Chris Oakes and guard Robert Owens also scored in double figures with 18 and 12, respectively, for San Jose State (12-8, 5-3 WAC). The Spartans are four games over the .500 plateau for the first time since the 1994 season when they were 12-8 en route to a 15-12 final record. San Jose State never trailed after Oliver's first basket, a lay-up, gave the Spartans an 8-7 advantage with 14:15 left. Shooting over 50 percent from the field for the third game in a row with a 50.8 percentage, San Jose State turned a 41-32 halftime lead into a second-half rout. The Spartans, who outrebounded Hawaii (9-12, 2-6 WAC), 39-32, led by as many as 27 points before the end of the game. Roderick Flemings led the Rainbow Warriors in scoring with 19 points. Jose State welcomed the return of forward C.J. Webster who missed four games after getting accidentally poked in the eye in the January 11 Fresno State game. He was in the starting lineup, played 16 minutes, scored 4 points and grabbed 2 rebounds. |
