|Volleyball Falls to NMSU At WAC Tournament|
Las Vegas-Making their first tournament appearance since 2008, the San Jose State volleyball team fell to New Mexico State, 25-11, 28-26, 25-13, Monday night in the opening round of the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament held at the Orleans Arena.
Samantha O'Connell led the Spartan hitters with 10 kills and hit .300 for the match with 30 attempts and just one hitting error. She also led the team in blocking with two, one solo and one assist.
Setter Caitlin Andrade recorded 29 assists and finishes the season with 2,759 career assists, good for fourth in the San Jose State career rankings. Andrade also led the team with seven digs Monday night.
Others contributing include Taylor Japhet, making her first appearance in a month, who added nine kills and two digs. Krista Miller recorded seven kills and four digs, while Kylie Miraldi had four kills, three digs and a block in her final match in a Spartan uniform. Alex Akana had three kills, while Mary Alice O'Reilly contributed a kill.
After falling in the first set 25-11, the Spartans rebounded in the second set, hitting .250 with 17 kills on 40 attempts and just seven errors. The team had set point at 24-21, before the Aggies scored three consecutive points to tie the set at 24-24. A Japhet kill gave San Jose State a 25-24 lead, but the Aggies tied the score and eventually won 28-26.
San Jose State finishes the season with a 12-18 overall record and a 6-8 WAC mark.
