A massive offensive lineman for Del Campo High in Fair Oaks, Calif. (Coach Mike Dimino), A.J. joins the Spartans in the fall as a guard prospect. Samataua was MaxPreps.com's Capital Valley League Offensive Lineman of the Year and a Sacramento Bee first-team All-Metro selection in 2012 helping his team to an undefeated league record. He also was an all-league honoree as a junior. Samataua completed his high school career playing in the 2012 Optimist All-Star Football Game in Loomis, Calif.
The two-sport letterwinner was a shot put and discus thrower for the track and field team as a sophomore and a junior. Samataua was his league's discus champion in 2012.
A.J. plans to major in psychology. He would like to become a forensics psychologist. The native of Long Beach, Calif., was born on September 28, 1994.
Coach Caragher on A.J.: "A.J. is a thick, athletic offensive lineman. I believe he can do a lot of the things we ask of our offensive linemen, like pulling and trapping. He'll be a solid inside player at the guard or center positions. A.J. plays in a physical manner that you like in your offensive linemen - relentless and aggressive. "
