The 2012 Capital League Defensive Lineman of the Year, Michael was a Sacramento Bee second-team All-Metro selection for Antelope (Calif.) High. The second-team All-Sac-Joaquin Section and first-team all-county pick was credited with 9.0 tackles for loss and a team-high 6.0 quarterback sacks for Titans' championship team. As a junior, he was credited with a team-best 10 quarterback hurries and 26 tackles en route to first-team all-league honors. The two-sport letterwinner also competed at 225-pounds on the Antelope High wrestling team.
Michael's sister, Michelle Okoroike, is a freshman guard on the Cal State San Bernardino women's basketball team. His cousin, Basil Okoroike, is a jumper for the UC Davis men's track and field team.
Okoroike (pronounced Oh-core-rhee-kay) plans to major in biology. He is a member of his school's Project Lead The Way - a high school biomedical sciences program. The native of Antelope, Calif., was born on May 18, 1995.
Coach Caragher on Michael: "Michael is kind of a 'sleeper.' We think a lot of teams missed on him. He's big and strong (6-foot-2, 235-pounds), and loves football and weight training. He has a lot of athleticism and combined with that size, had tremendous potential. He played some linebacker and some down lineman in high school. Time will tell where he ends up (at either LB or DL)....it just depends on how much he grows."
