One of Northern California's most productive running backs, Brandon will get looks on offense and defense when he joins the Spartans. Monroe rushed for 3,456 yards and 42 touchdowns in three seasons at Del Oro High in Loomis, Calif. (Coach Casey Taylor). He gained 1,545 yards as a senior and 1,662 yards as a junior. The all-purpose running back averaged 17.9 yards a reception and caught four touchdown passes for Del Oro High. A dynamic defensive back, he had 11.0 tackles for loss and 6.0 quarterback sacks his junior season and returned two interceptions for touchdowns as a senior.
In 2012, Monroe was named CalHiSports first-team all-state multi-purpose back, a second-team all-state and first-team All-NorCal running back by MaxPreps.com, the 2012 Sacramento Bee Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Player of the Sierra Foothill League for the second time. As a junior, he was a CalHiSports all-state underclass running back and a Sacramento Bee All-Metro selection.
Monroe continued his high school career scoring two touchdowns in the December 2012 Optimist All-Star Game in Loomis, Calif., and in the 2013 International Bowl in Austin, Texas as a member of Team USA Under-18 squad. The two-sport letterwinner also is a sprinter and long jumper in track and field.
Brandon plans to major in kinesiology and foresees a career as a high school teacher and football coach. He is in second year as a member of Character Combine, "...an all-inclusive coaching community united for increased character development." The native of Northridge, Calif., was born on March 10, 1995.
Coach Caragher on Brandon: "We have Brandon listed as an 'Athlete,' because he's shown to be effective on both sides of the ball. I think we'll start him out as a safety, because he's likely to see action earlier at that position. He's a very good open-field tackler and covers well. As a running back, he has a nice combination of running with power while also making people miss. As a result, Brandon has rushed for over 1,500 yards (twice). We're bringing an outstanding 'Athlete' to our team and we'll find out soon where he goes, but I believe safety might be his natural position."
