One of the top rushers in the California Community College system in 2010 and 2011, Alvin is a running back hopeful enrolled at San Jose State and competing for a spot on the depth chart this spring. In his two seasons at Hartnell College (Coach Matt Collins), he gained 2,552 yards, averaged 6.1 yards per carry and scored 28 touchdowns. As a sophomore, Jelks was a Region III all-state and All-Coast Conference honoree that was second in the state for rushing yards (1,641) and rushing touchdowns (18). He shared the top spot for total touchdowns scored (21) in the regular season.
The two-sport letterwinner lettered in football (Coach Steve Goodbody) and track and field at Salinas (Calif.) High. He plans to major in justice studies. The Salinas, Calif., native was born on December 19, 1991.
Coach Caragher on Alvin: "Alvin is a very good sized running back who has breakaway speed. When he finds that crease in the defense, he hits it fast and is often gone (to the end zone). He has shown to be effective catching the ball out of the backfield as well."
