A first-team District 6-5A selection, Austin returns to California this fall as a placekicking candidate at San Jose State. Lopez took over the kick scoring chores at Trinity High in Euless, Texas last season. In 2011, he converted 55-of-60 extra-point attempts and was 8-of-11 kicking field goals. His long field goal of the season was 49 yards. Lopez also converted his only game-winning opportunity – a 37-yard field goal in overtime against Heritage of Colleyville on September 23 for a 38-35 victory.
The right-footed kicker was a two-sport letterwinner at Trinity. As a junior, he set the boys soccer single-season school scoring record with 19 goals. Lopez first started focusing on football in 2009 when he enrolled in a kicking camp run by former Washington Redskins kicker Scott Blanton. Throughout much of his youth, Austin was a member of the Solar Soccer Club of Dallas. He enjoys watching comedy movies and lists The Hangover, Due Date and Anchorman as three of his favorites. Lopez plans to major in business. The native of Newport Beach, Calif., was born on July 20, 1994.

Mike MacIntyre says: “Austin Lopez is from a big-time football program – Euless Trinity in Dallas, Texas. He made a winning field goal in front of 50,000 people in Texas Stadium this year. He played really, really well. He has a very strong leg. He came all the way here for (summer) camp. We saw him at camp and were very impressed with him.” |
