Three Spartans In Casino Del Sol All-Star Game

Tucson, Ariz.-----Defensive backs James Orth and Ronnie Yell and running back Ina Liaina are three San Jose State University football players scheduled to play in the 2013 Casino Del Sol All-Star Game, Friday, January 11, at Kino Stadium.

            ESPN3 will broadcast the game beginning at 6:00 p.m. (PST)/7:00 p.m. (MST)/8:00 p.m. (CST)/9:00 p.m. (PST).

            Orth, a three-year starter at safety, was sixth on the 2012 Spartans in tackles with 58. The graduate of Central Catholic High in Modesto, had one interception and broke-up four passes during San Jose State's 11-win season. For his career, the 6-foot-2, 206-pound defender had eight interceptions.

            Yell played most of his Spartans career as a cornerback and punt returner. In 2012, he was credited with 41 tackles and nine pass break-ups. In his 46-game college career, the graduate of Lincoln High in San Diego, was credited with 24 pass break-ups and two pass interceptions.

            Liaina saw most of his action as a fullback and also played on many special teams. In 2012, the 243-pound graduate of Rio Mesa High in Oxnard, Calif., gained 98 yards rushing on 33 carries and scored once on the ground. Liaina also caught a single-season personal best 10 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

            The three Spartans will be playing for the West team coached by former San Jose State head coach Dick Tomey. When Yell, Liaina and Orth were high school players, Tomey recruited each one to San Jose State.

            The Casino Del Sol All-Star Game is in its second season and was formerly known as the Blue-Gray All-Star Classic played on Christmas Day in the state of Alabama. Former San Jose State quarterback Matt Faulkner was the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 Casino Del Sol All-Star Game.
