The Spartans are winners of seven of the last eight meetings between these teams including a 34-24 triumph in San Jose last year. New Mexico State's last win in the series was a 29-27 victory on October 30, 2010. San Jose State's last win in Las Cruces was a 31-14 victory on October 18, 2008. Being 7-2: San Jose State's current 7-2 record is a high-water mark for the program.
The 2012 team has a three-game winning streak heading into the New Mexico State game. Best road team in years: San Jose State plays its final regular season road game at New Mexico State. The Spartans are one of 15 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams with at least four road victories this season. Indoor Spartans: The 2012 San Jose State team is the school's first to win two indoor games in a season. The Spartans won in the Alamodome with its 52-24 triumph over UTSA and in the Kibbie Dome by defeating Idaho, 42-13. 300 points: With three regular-season games remaining, the 2012 San Jose State is the first to score at least 300 points with its current total of 304 since the 2006 squad that finished with 324 points and a bowl victory. Since 2000, the 2000 (374), 2002 (376), 2004 (312) and 2006 (324) are the previous teams to score at least 300 points. San Jose State most accurate FBS passing team again: Heading into the New Mexico State game, for the third time in the last four weeks, San Jose State is the most accurate passing team among Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) programs. Fales among the most accurate: San Jose State quarterback David Fales is the most accurate passer among the nation's top-100 ranked quarterbacks in games played through November 3. Critical receptions: Of Noel Grigsby's 55 receptions this season, 41 resulted either in a first down or a touchdown. His 74.5 percent figure exceeds his 2011 percentage of 53.9 percent (48-of-89). 200-2,500: Noel Grigsby, the school record holder for career receptions and pass receiving yardage, is among nine active Football Bowl Subdivision players with at least 200 career receptions for a minimum of 2,500 receiving yards. He is the first San Jose State player with three seasons of at least 800 receiving yards.
