Bill Bischoff's San Jose State education paid off in more ways than could imagine. A third-generation San Franciscan, he set his sights early on San Jose State for his higher education, because of its "...great civil engineering program." That wasn't enough for this sports fan. After earning his bachelor's degree in 1964, Bill wanted more and got it when he received a master's degree in geotechnical engineering. Armed with two degrees, Bischoff's brain power was unleashed when San Jose State campus buildings like The Event Center and The Campus Village were constructed. Geotechnical engineering has to do with a structure's foundation and Bischoff made sure everything was sound at the bottom for those on top. A San Jose State football fan for nearly 50 years, Bill attended home games in his student days, but it was his love of baseball and raising a family that led to today's 30-plus year participation as a Spartan Foundation member. As a Little League parent, Bischoff met Steve Gossett who encouraged him to join the Foundation. The co-captain of this year's Go For Gold scholarship fund drive team also has a seat on the Foundation's Board of Directors. Recently, Bill engineered and executed a plan for $125,000 in Spartan Foundation Scholarship Drive funds for deserving San Jose State University student-athletes. Bischoff considers himself an advocate of Spartan Athletics, rather than a volunteer. He believes that athletics plays a key role in the public recognition of the entire University. The positive publicity raises the credentials of all Spartans. He is proud to let everyone know that the Charles E. Davidson College of Engineering is one of the best in the nation and that he is the chairman of the department's advisory committee for civil engineering. When asked about any great memories of Spartan Athletics he immediately mentions his trip to Omaha, Neb., with the San Jose State baseball team for the 2000 College World Series. Destined to be an engineer, Bill Bischoff is
engineering another victory for the Spartans as the Go For Gold Spartan
Foundation Scholarship Funds Drive co-captain.
