WAYS TO SUPPORT SPARTAN ATHLETICS

SPARTAN FOUNDATION / MAJOR GIFTS & ANNUAL GIVING

Now in its fifty-second year, the Spartan Foundation provides the primary financial support for intercollegiate athletic student-athlete scholarships at San José State University. The purpose of the Spartan Foundation is to unite, in an organized effort, the alumni and friends of San José State University in order to raise funds to meet the rising costs of athletic scholarships.

The Spartan Foundation supports the University's mission by providing student-athletes with exceptional educational and athletic opportunities that allow each student-athlete to grow as a total person, and better meet the challenges of a rapidly changing society. Spartan Foundation members assist in providing academic support services for many student-athletes from challenging backgrounds who, without such support, would not have the opportunity to excel in the classrooms and compete on the playing fields of San José State University. Scholarship expenses for student-athletes include room, board, tuition, fees, and books during the pursuit of a degree. In the past year, over a million dollars was allocated for this purpose to approximately 400 student-athletes in 16 men's and women's varsity sports.

NOTE

The Spartan Foundation requests that all pledged funds and gifts be received by June 30. Receipt of donations and gifts by this date helps the Athletic Department conform to San José State's fiscal year, allows proper tax credit to be earned by donors, and ensures that pledged funds will be made available for student-athlete scholarship support in the next funding cycle. Spartan Foundation membership benefits are granted only upon receipt of pledge payment.

PLANNED GIFTS / ENDOWMENTS

Planned or deferred gifts and endowments represent a growing source of funding for San José State student-athletes. By benefiting the future needs of the department, these gifts help ensure the continuity and sustainability of the intercollegiate athletic program. Deferred gifts and endowments are the result of careful planning which integrates a donor's charitable gift into his or her overall financial, tax, and estate planning objectives.

CAPITAL PROGRAMS

In order to provide quality, state-of-the-art training, academic support, and competition facilities for student-athletes, medical and rehabilitation facilities, coaches' offices and meeting rooms, proper recognition for student-athletes of past generations, and administrative office space on campus...private funding is required, and those gifts are coordinated through the Athletic Department.
