Roslyn, Pa.-----The Maxwell Football Club has named San Jose State University cornerback Dwight Lowery as one of 65 players on the 2007 Chuck Bednarik Award ‘Watch List.’
The Chuck Bednarik Award has been presented since 1995 and is named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, a former University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Eagles football great. Known as the game’s last great 60-minute player, Bednarik played center and middle linebacker. He is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced in early November and three finalists will be announced November 26. The winner of the 2007 Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 6, 2007. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah’s Entertainment Atlantic City in March 2008. The ‘watch list’ candidates were chosen by the Maxwell Football Club’s Selection Committee and the Maxwell Club reserves the right to make additions and subtractions to these lists as the 2007 season unfolds. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA Sports Information Directors, Head Coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for these awards. Lowery heads into 2007 as a returning All-America selection that intercepted nine passes during San Jose State’s season that resulted in a 9-4 win-loss record and a New Mexico Bowl victory. Following spring practice, he was named a Playboy All-America and to the watch lists for the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All-America, Nagurski Award and Lott Trophy. |
