SPARTAN NOTES: In his fourth and final season with the Spartans...one of two fourth-year seniors on the 2010 roster...team co-captain...competing primarily for the starting spot at second base...produced the top grade point average among all Spartan male student-athletes through each of his first three academic years...two-time CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Baseball First Team selection...three-time Academic All-Western Athletic Conference honoree and three-time San Jose State University Scholar-Athlete...three of his eight career home runs have come against rival Fresno State, at three different ballparks...cousin of former high school and current San Jose State teammate Breyon Canez, with younger brother Kolton Klauer now joining the program in 2010...33 multi-hit and 14 multi-RBI games as a Spartan...career batting average of .275 and fielding percentage of .944 (99-186-17).

2009: Started 39 of 46 games played...22 starts came at second base, with 17 as the designated hitter...batted .263 and produced single-season career highs of 26 runs, four home runs, 31 RBI and 19 walks...also matched his career best with 10 doubles...best statistical game came in the series opener at NMSU (5/8), when he went 4-for-6 for his first career four-hit game, with a three-run home run in the fifth and a career-high five RBI in all...also belted a solo home run to lead off the seventh in the next game at NMSU (5/9)...each of his four home runs came in Spartan victories...solo blast in the eighth inning gave the Spartans an 8-6 lead in a 10-7 triumph at rival Santa Clara (2/28)...lone long ball at home for the season was a three-run shot against Cal State Bakersfield (3/28)...went 3-for-5 with two runs, four RBI and his only steal of the year in that game...3-for-4 with a run, walk and two RBI against Saint Joseph's (2/20)...3-for-4 with a double, walk, two runs and two RBI against Nevada (5/17)...2-for-5 with a walk, sacrifice fly, run and two RBI as a pinch-hitter...12 multi-hit and a career-high six multi-RBI games...had eight two-run efforts...strung together a pair of career-long hit streaks of seven games each (3/18-29 and 4/25-5/9)...played for the Humboldt Crabs (Coach Robin Guiver) in Arcata, Calif., during the 2009 summer, helping lead them to the first-ever West Coast League Tri-State crown with an overall mark of 48-11 (19-5 WCL)...hit .297 (55-for-185) with 37 runs, 11 doubles, one triple, 26 RBI, 19 walks, nine hit-by-pitches and 10 steals on 12 attempts...fielded .969 (90-127-7) and earned team's Coaches' Award.

2008: Started 21 of 39 games played and hit a career-best .314...18 starts came at second base, with three at the designated hitter spot...produced three home runs, all against WAC foes, with two of them against eventual national champion Fresno State...first home run came in the series opener at Louisiana Tech (3/28), when he went 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI in an 11-6 win...homered in the series finale at Fresno State (5/11), accounting for both RBI in a dramatic 2-1 triumph with his shot in the seventh, and again against the Bulldogs at the WAC Tournament in Ruston, La. (5/23), in the season finale, as the back end of consecutive shots with John Shaffer...ended the year strong, starting the last eight games and hitting .364 (12-for-33) with two doubles, two home runs, three runs and eight RBI during a stretch that included a season-long six-game hit streak...went 3-for-5 in the doubleheader nightcap at Fresno State (5/10), with a double and an RBI, and 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI against Nevada (5/18)...had eight multi-hit and four multi-RBI games...changed his uniform number from 32 to 11 prior to the season...did not play over the summer.

2007: Started 39 of 47 games played, with a team-high 29 starts at third base, six at second and four at designated hitter...appeared at third base, second base and shortstop defensively...was one of just two players to start a game at second base...hit .262 with 24 runs scored, 10 doubles and 17 RBI...hit first collegiate home run at home against Fresno State (5/6), a solo shot to left field to lead off the eighth inning, as he finished 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI...first college steal came at USF (2/6), when he went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI...was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI against New Mexico State (3/25)...longest hit streak was six games (3/8-17), with the last five all with two hits...produced 13 multi-hit games, all with two hits, and four multi-RBI games, all with two RBI...scored two runs in a game six times...made two diving plays on defense to save a pair of runs in his debut at Saint Mary's (2/2)...had a great 2006 fall season offensively, playing shortstop, second and third...played for the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League (HCBL) champion Kamuela Paniolos (Coach Mark Hirayama) with current teammate Corey Valine during the summer.

SAN BENITO HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year varsity letterwinner in both baseball (Coach Michael Luna) and football at San Benito High School in Hollister, Calif., graduating in 2006...three-time first-team all-league selection in baseball, as well as a first-team All-Central Coast Section honoree and Tri-County Athletic League Co-Most Valuable Player...as a senior, played varsity baseball alongside younger brother, Kolton, and cousins Breyon and Zach Canez...in football, was a first-team all-league, second-team All-CCS and TCAL Offensive Player of the Year pick as the quarterback.

KARSON: Majoring in business administration, with a concentration in management...considering going to graduate school for an MBA after graduation, and eventually starting his own business...serves as a baseball team representative on the Spartan Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)...enjoys traveling, eating, riding bikes, driving, listening to music, snowboarding and spending time with family and friends...traveled to Dublin, Ireland; Barcelona, Madrid and Pamplona, Spain; Nice and Paris, France; and Rome and Venice, Italy, during the 2008 summer..also has one younger sister, Samantha...parents are Kraig and Judy Klauer...Karson Riley Klauer was born in Gilroy, Calif., on December 28, 1987.
