Santa Clara, Calif. --- San Jose State posted six individual wins against Santa Clara and two doubles victories on the first day of the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University.

In the 26-player singles bracket, Sabastiani Leon Chao, Erica Medlin, Julianna Bacelar, Isadora Busch, and Chau Truong each won their match in straight sets. Sophomore Jessica Willett also had a victory in her singles match play, defeating Santa Clara's Charlotte Newell in three sets, 4-6;6-1; 7-6 (8).

 "The singles did really well," said head coach Sylvain Malroux. "We won six five out of the six matches against Santa Clara which surprised us. It was a pretty interesting day."

In doubles play, the team of Medlin/ Leon Chao defeated University of San Francisco's team of Andrea Ka and Yurie Hashiguchi, 8-0 and Willett/ Bacelar defeated Nikki Wolny and Stephanie Skaras of Santa Clara, 8-3.

"Everything we have been working on is paying off," said Malroux. "We are improving and we are looking forward to tomorrow's match play."

The Spartans continue play on Saturday, November 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the Degheri Tennis Center on the Santa Clara University campus.
