San Jose State University defensive end Travis Johnson, the career leader for quarterback sacks among active Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players, is one of four players named a Capital One Academic All-District 8 defensive lineman. Johnson is a kinesiology major that met the nomination criteria of possessing a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.30, has at least one year of residency at the nominating institution and is an important member of the team. A team captain for the 7-2 Spartans heading into the November 10 game at New Mexico State, Johnson ranks among the top-five players nationally in tackles for loss (3rd, 17.0) and quarterback sacks (4th, 11.0). His 30.0 career quarterback sacks ties him for first on the San Jose State and Western Athletic Conference (WAC) lists. Johnson now advances to the national ballot for an opportunity to be named an Academic All-America. He is one of 32 players at his position eligible for the 2012 honor. The three-time Academic All-WAC honoree is the second San Jose State student-athlete this fall to be named a Capital One Academic All-District 8 student-athlete. Men's soccer player Nick Murphy earned the distinction for the third time earlier this month. District 8 covers schools in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, British Columbia and the Yukon.Capital One Academic All-District NCAA Division I Defensive Linemen
