San Jose, Calif. - The San Jose State women's tennis team
will be traveling to Stanford, Calif. to compete in the ITA Northwest Regionals starting on Friday, October 19.
The ITA Northwest Regionals, held at the Taube Tennis
Center, will host 17 teams including San Jose State, Stanford, California,
Eastern Washington, Oregon, Portland, Portland State, Pacific, Santa Clara,
Saint Mary's, Fresno State, San Francisco, Washington, Washington State,
Sacramento State, and Gonzaga.
"The competition is tough, and that is wonderful for us," head
coach Sylvain Malroux said about this weekend's tournament. "I think it is the
toughest competition we have had, and if we can be successful, we will be excited. We are
looking to improve, and the ladies are getting better".
Competing for the Spartans in singles play are senior Chau
Troung, junior Sabastiani Leon Chao, sophomores Julianna Bacelar and Erica
Medlin and freshman Margot Charron.
Troung/Bacelar and Leon Chao/Medlin will be competing in
doubles play this weekend.
The tournament play begins at 9:00 a.m., on Friday, October 19, and continues through Tuesday, October 23.
