San Jose, Calif. - San Jose State women's gymnastics had the 17^th-best grade point average (GPA) in the nation during the 2011-12 school year, and individually, seven gymnasts were honored as National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Scholastic All-Americans. The Spartans' 3.43 was .02 points higher than 2011, and San Jose State's ranking at 17 is the highest the program has achieved.  

"This honor means a lot to the program. It shows that we are not just about the athletics," Head coach Wayne Wright said of the distinction.  "Being a gymnast at San Jose State is about being a student-athlete. They are students, first and foremost, and that is the reason why the gymnasts are here."  

Recognized as Scholastic All-American gymnasts were Patricia Aubel (Mathematics - 3.96 GPA), Kiley Field (Undeclared - 3.79 GPA), Julia Greer (Childhood and Adolescent Development - 3.63 GPA), Cami Guyer (Undeclared - 3.64 GPA), Cassandra Harrison (Occupational Therapy - 3.87 GPA) and Karlene Simon (Environmental Studies - 3.90 GPA).

This is the second honor for Greer, Harrison, and Simon, and the first for Aubel, Field, and Guyer.

The Scholastic All-American award recognizes athletes who achieved a minimum 3.5 GPA in a school year.

“The last few years we have been consistently getting better athletically and academically. We want to continue to do the same,” concluded Wright.
