|Tennis Comes Up Short In Regular Season Finale|
San Jose, Calif. - With the Spartans trailing, 3-2, Alexis Marquez and Jessica Willett battled late into the 4 hour and 21 minute match trying to grab a come from behind victory. Marquez fell in the second set, 7-6, 7-5, and Willett shared the same fate, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
The San Jose State women’s tennis (13-6, 3-2 WAC) team finished up the regular season, Friday, April 20, falling to WAC opponent Idaho, 5-2.
After winning 11 dual doubles points in a row, San Jose State has dropped the last four doubles decisions. The freshman duo of Isadora Busch/Jessica Willett earned their seventh dual doubles victory of the year, defeating Alejandra Lozano/Beatriz Flores, 8-6. In the No. 2 position, Alexis Marquez/Chau Truong after leading, fell to Molly Knox/ Sophie Vickers, 8-6.
Busch and Erica Medlin grabbed two San Jose State singles wins, Busch, 6-3, 6-4, over Lozano, Medlin, 6-1, 6-1 over Knox. Busch and Medlin both secured their 12 dual singles match win on the year, moving them into a tie for the team lead with Sabastiani Leon Chao.
The Spartans have lost their last three matches following the program record 12 match winning streak.
Up next San Jose State will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., April 26-29, to compete in the WAC Championships. Seeding will be determined following the conclusion of the weekend’s WAC matches.
