|Hall of Fame Spartan Larry Arnerich (1914-2012)|
"He was a man of his word. He trained people to have character."
That's how Ray Silva ('52) described his high school coach Larry Arnerich ('37), one of the first members of the San Jose State University Sports Hall of Fame.
Mr. Arnerich (1914-2012) died on February 17. He was 97-years old.
Mr. Arnerich was the team captain of the 1936 Spartan basketball team coached by Bill Hubbard. He also played for Coach Hovey McDonald on the 1934 and 1935 San Jose State basketball teams.
Besides coaching Ray Silva, Mr. Arnerich's many players during a 20-plus year career included former city of San Jose mayor Norm Mineta and San Jose State Sports Hall of Fame basketball center George Clark.
San Jose State University Alumni Association past president Gayle Kludt wrote this story about Silva, Clark and Mr. Arnerich.
A memorial service is scheduled for March 3, 11:00 a.m. at the Oak Hill Funeral Home, 300 Curtner Avenue in San Jose.
