The Spartans have dropped their last three contests after losing at New Mexico State, 94-82, on February 6. Utah State record: 18-6, 8-2 WAC before the February 11 game at Boise State. The Aggies have a season-best eight-game winning streak after defeating Nevada, 60-48, on January 23. Radio Coverage: KSJS (90.5 FM, San Jose) originates San Jose State University basketball broadcasts. Mike Chisholm calls the play-by-play. Coverage for the Utah State game begins at 6:30 p.m. (PST). KLIV (1590 AM, San Jose) and KSJS will carry the Utah State contest. Television coverage: There is no Play-by-play broadcast coverage of the Utah State game. San Jose State-Utah State series: The Aggies lead the series, 43-21. Utah State has won the last four meetings between these teams including the January 30 win in Logan, 77-58. San Jose State’s last win in the series was a 70-67 decision in San Jose on February 18, 2008. Next WAC Win: San Jose State’s next conference victory will give the Spartans six Western Athletic Conference wins and match the largest total of WAC triumphs in a season by the 2000, 2001 and 2009 teams. Homecourt shooting: Five times in the last six home games, San Jose State has made at least 50 percent of its field goal attempts. The Spartans’ 56.4 percent figure in the January 23 win over New Mexico State is a season-high for home games. In the last six home games, San Jose State is shooting 52.5 percent (170-of-324) from the field and 51.1 percent (47-of-92) from 3-point range. Regaining threes’ touch: As of February 8, San Jose State is 11th nationally in team 3-point shooting percentage with its 40.2 mark. The Spartans made 11-of-23 three-pointers in the February 6 game at New Mexico State to end a two-game drought of 10-for-37 against Utah State and Louisiana Tech combined on January 30 and February 4. The February 13 San Jose State-Utah State game matches the #3 and #11 top 3-point shooting teams nationally. When the two teams faced each other on January 30, San Jose State was #7 and Utah State, #8. Judicious threes: In games through February 6, San Jose State’s 358 3-point basket attempts are the fewest in the WAC. Owens and Peterson tie 3-point field goal record: Robert Owens and Mac Peterson each converted seven three-point baskets in a game this season to tie the university’s single-game record set by Terrance Richmond in a 1998 game at Montana. Both players were 7-of-12 from three-point territory and share the WAC’s season high for most three-point baskets in a game this season. Owens pumped in his seven three-pointers at New Mexico State on February 6. Peterson fired away with success at Fresno State on January 11. 100-100-200 in the WAC: San Jose State’s Justin Graham is the first player in Western Athletic Conference this season to grab 100 rebounds, receive credit for 100 assists and score 200 points. Graham picked up his 100th rebound and 100th assist for the season in the Louisiana Tech game on February 4. Utah State’s Jared Quayle matched Graham’s 100 rebounds, 100 assists and 200 points this season with his second assist in the February 6 game against Nevada. As of February 9, Graham and Quayle are the only two conference players to record this statistical phenomenon in back-to-back seasons.
