San Jose State record: 12-10, 5-5 WAC. The Spartans have lost their last two including a 71-64 decision at Louisiana Tech on February 4.
New Mexico State record: 13-8, 6-2 WAC. The Aggies have won five of their last six after defeating Louisiana Tech, 91-77, on January 30 to create a then-three-way tie for first place with Louisiana Tech and Utah State in the Western Athletic Conference standings. San Jose State-New Mexico State series: New Mexico State leads the series, 27-11. San Jose State ended a nine-game, 14-year winless stretch against the Aggies with a 94-83 win in San Jose on January 23. New Mexico State has won the last six games between these teams in the Pan American Center. The Spartans’ last win in Las Cruces over the Aggies was a 71-67 overtime triumph on March 5, 1994, when both teams were members of the Big West Conference. Single digits decided six of the last seven games between these teams in the Pan American Center. Games vs. top WAC teams: San Jose State began a stretch of conference games on January 21 in which the opponent was either first or second in the standings. Louisiana Tech was first when the Spartans and Bulldogs met on January 21. New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech were tied for first when the Aggies visited San Jose on January 23. Utah State was tied for second with New Mexico State on January 30. San Jose State’s next three opponents are Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State and Utah State on February 13. 5-5 In WAC: For the first time, San Jose State at .500 after 10 Western Athletic Conference games with a 5-5 mark. Seeing threes: San Jose State faced a school record 38 3-point basket attempts in its January 23 win over New Mexico State. The previous mark was 37 3-point basket attempts in the December 22, 2009 game at Northern Colorado. The Bears made a Northern Colorado record 18 in the 93-69 win over the Spartans. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Three-point field goal percentage still high: Despite making just 10-of-37 3-point basket attempts the last two games, San Jose State is ranked 14th nationally in 3-point field goal accuracy at 39.8 percent in games played through February 4. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Judicious threes: In games through February 4, San Jose State’s 334 3-point basket attempts are the fewest in the WAC and one of the lowest totals nationally. In comparison, VMI, the team with the most 3-point basket attempts has taken 789, more than double San Jose State in games played through February 4.
