Most recently, the Spartans lost at Utah State (24-9) on November 14. Hawai’i record: 4-6, 2-5 WAC. The Warriors have a two-game winning streak after defeating New Mexico State (24-6) on November 14. Dick Tomey Radio Show: The weekly one-hour Dick Tomey Radio Show airs live on KLIV (1590 AM, San Jose), Wednesdays, at 8:00 p.m. The 60-minute show originates from Original Joe’s restaurant in downtown San Jose. Next broadcast is Wednesday, November 18. Play-by-Play Television Coverage: KFVE (Channel 5, Honolulu) will televise the game. Jim Leahey calls the play by play. Russell Yamanoha serves as the analyst. KFVE’s live telecast begins at 5:00 p.m. (PST). Dick Tomey TV Show: Now in its fifth year, the weekly Dick Tomey Show airs six times weekly on the Comcast Hometown Network (Channel 104 for most Northern California Comcast cable subscribers). Air times are every Wednesday through Friday at 1:00 and 9:30 p.m. San Jose State-Hawai’i series: San Jose State leads the series, 16-15-1. The Spartans won last year’s meeting, 20-17, in Honolulu. Hawai’i had won the last six meetings between these teams prior to 2008 including a 42-35 overtime decision the last time these teams played in Spartan Stadium two seasons ago. The last three times these teams played in Spartan Stadium, there was overtime in 2007, a game that ended with :01 on the stadium clock and San Jose State on the Hawai’i 1-yard line in 2005, and a NCAA record-setting contest in 2001 for most points scored by two teams (29 - 15 by the Spartans and 14 by the Warriors in a 1:34 span of the fourth quarter) in a short period of time. Last five San Jose State-Hawai’i games 9/27/08 SJSU 20, Hawai’i 17 10/12/07 Hawai’i 42, SJSU 35 (OT) 11/18/06 @Hawai’i 54, SJSU 17 10/22/05 Hawai’i 45, SJSU 38 10/23/04 Hawai’i 46, SJSU 28 San Jose State to honor Margerum: In a pregame ceremony prior to the Hawai’i game, San Jose State will honor wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Ken Margerum - one of 16 players in the latest class of College Football Hall of Fame inductees. Margerum has been a member of the San Jose State coaching staff since 2005. He was a two-time first-team All-America wide receiver at Stanford and set a Pacific-10 Conference record for career touchdown receptions that lasted 25 years. He will honored in New York in December 2009 and officially enshrined in the summer of 2010 in South Bend, Indiana. Pass defense tightens up at Utah State: The Utah State game marked the second time this season a San Jose State opponent completed less than 50 percent of its passes. Utah State was 7-of-19 for 50 yards and no touchdowns. The 50 passing yards allowed by the Spartans are the fewest in a game since the 2001 Homecoming game when SMU passed for just 44 yards on 13 attempts. Lineup turnover: After nine games, five players have started in every contest this season. Offensive linemen Fred Koloto and Isaac Leatiota, linebacker Travis Jones, and defensive backs Tanner Burns and Duke Ihenacho have started in all nine games. Forty players have started at least once this season. Last season, 37 different players started at least one game. New School Record: Wide receiver Kevin Jurovich became the new San Jose State career pass receiving leader in the Utah State game. His two receptions ended a six-day tie with the late Guy Liggins, a wide receiver in 1986 and 1987 who caught 149 passes. Jurovich now has 151 career receptions heading into the Hawai’i game. Variety of targets at Fresno State and Utah State: A season-high eight different receivers caught passes in the Fresno State and Utah State games.
