The San Jose State women's basketball team hosts Cal State East Bay in an exhibition tune-up this Saturday, November 7, on Walt McPherson Court in The Event Center.  The game tips-off at 2 p.m. Fans can catch a glimpse of the 2009-10 Spartans that added nine newcomers in the offseason.

Head coach Pam DeCosta enters her third year at the helm of the Spartans and sees the return of four of her top six scorers from last year, including last season's second leading scorer, Chasity Shavers, and inside presence Shaunna Ridge.  Ridge was the only Spartan to start every game last year.  She led the Spartans in rebounding and blocked shots and sits ninth on the all-time blocks list after just one season in Blue and Gold.  Guards Sayja Sumler and Ashley Brown are back this year along with Aumornai Edinburgh, Myesha Broaden, Monique Coble, and Dominique Hamilton.

The Spartans added size, speed and shooting with this year's nine-member recruiting class.  Inside depth highlights the transfers with the addition of 6-foot-3 Samantha Marez, and 6-foot Marnesha Hall.  Marez joins the Spartans from Central Arizona College, last season's junior college national champions.  The incoming freshman add speed, shooting and ball handling skills to the team with the additions of Alisha Eckberg, a pure shooter from San Diego and Rachel Finnegan, from Turlock.  Eckberg was a 1,000-point scorer, and Finnegan was a two-time high school player of the year and the Modesto Bee Player of the Year.  Britney Bradley, Liz Johnson, Palagi Atoe, Addie Schivo and Danielle Keenan complete this year's talented squad.

After Saturday's exhibition game, fans have the chance to meet this year's Spartans at a meet-and-greet at Pasta Pomodoro, 1205 The Alameda in San Jose.

The Spartans get the regular season underway with a home game against Southern California foe, Cal State Fullerton on Friday, November 13.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Walt McPherson Court in The Event Center.
