Stockton, Calif.-----Jay Myers' one-over par 72 was the best
score turned in by a San Jose State University men's golfer in the opening
round of the Pacific Invitational men's golf tournament.
Myers
had two birdies and three bogeys on the par 71, 6,757-yard Brookside Country
Club course. He was the only Spartan under par at any point in the first 18
holes of play.
As
a team, San Jose State posted a 296 score and is in 12th place.
Besides Myers' 72, Rosco Valentine's 73 and Stephan Stallworth's 75 counted in
the team score and one of the 76's from Mark Hubbard and Nick Brown added up to
the total for the first of three rounds. The five players combined for just
eight birdies in 90 holes of action.
Oregon
and UC Davis share the first-round lead with 273 totals. Host Pacific is third
at 278. Brigham Young at 279 and Saint Mary's at 280 round out the top five
teams in the 12-team field.
The
54-hole tournament continues on November 3 and concludes on November 4. Live
