Reno, Nev.---The San Jose State men's cross country team finished in sixth-place out of seven at the Western Athletics Conference Championship race in Reno, Nev., on October 31.
Alan Shelton ran the 8K course through Rancho San Rafael Park in 28:19.4, and was the Spartans' top finisher.
"I'm proud of Alan for the way he ran the race today," said head coach Augie Argabright. "This experience should be a big confidence booster as he returns for us next season."
Alan Shelton (35), Alfredo Coronado (40), Jonathan Gragert (41), David Haefele (42), and Sterling Granger (50) combined for San Jose State's total of 190 points.
"We feel like we could have placed much higher in this race," said Argabright. "Our runners really tried their hardest for this most important race, but today just wasn't our day."
With a total of 25 points, Utah State took first place honors in the race. Brian McKenna and Daniel Howell finished first and third respectively, helping Utah State to their victory.
This marks the end of the 2009 season for San Jose State. Eight of the nine runners in today's WAC Championship will be returning for the Spartans in 2010.
