The Spartans defeated Cal Poly (19-9) on September 26. Idaho record: 4-1, 1-0 WAC. The Vandals have a three-game winning streak for the first time since 2006 after topping Colorado State (31-29) on October 3. A pregame show starts at 4:45 p.m. Dick Tomey Radio Show: The weekly one-hour Dick Tomey Radio Show airs live on KLIV (1590 AM, San Jose), Wednesdays, at 8:00 p.m. The 60-minute show originates from Original Joe’s restaurant in downtown San Jose. Next broadcast is Wednesday, October 8. Play-by-Play Television Coverage: The Go Vandals TV Network will televise the Idaho-San Jose State live. Mike Lamb calls the play-by-play. Bob Akamian serves as producer and commentator. Dick Tomey TV Show: Now in its fifth year, the weekly Dick Tomey Show airs six times weekly on the Comcast Hometown Network (Channel 104 for most Northern California Comcast cable subscribers). Air times are every Wednesday through Friday at 1:00 and 9:30 p.m. First of two October byes over: San Jose State had the first of its two 2009 bye weeks ending October 3. The Spartans also are off the week ending October 24. In Dick Tomey’s first four seasons at San Jose State, the team is 4-2 following a bye week. Non-conference season complete: San Jose State completed its 2009 non-conference schedule with a 19-9 win over Cal Poly. Three of the four teams the Spartans faced were nationally-ranked in the top-20 at the time of the game. USC was #4; Utah, #17; and Cal Poly, #14 in one Football Championship Subdivision poll. Stanford, 4-1 as of October 3, has received votes in the last two Associated Press polls. Forcing fumbles: San Jose State is the only team with two players ranked in the top-10 nationally for forcing fumbles in games played through October 3. Safety Tanner Burns and defensive back Devin Newsome each have forced three fumbles in the Spartans’ first four games. 100 percent red-zone scoring: In games played through October 3, San Jose State is one of two Western Athletic Conference teams and eight in the Football Bowl Subdivision to score every time it moves the ball inside the opponent’s 20-yard line this season. The Spartans are 8-for-8. Utah State (10-for-10) also has a 100 percent rate of scoring once inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Heading into games the week ending October 10, San Jose State is the top WAC team to score touchdowns once in the ‘red zone.’ The Spartans have an 87.5 percent rate of scoring a touchdown once inside the ‘red zone’ this season. Ground game comes alive: San Jose State rushed for a season-high 242 yards in its win over Cal Poly on September 26. The Spartans came into the game with just 55 yards in three games. The last time San Jose State rushed for at least 250 yards in a game was the 2008 win over San Diego State when the Spartans ran for 293 yards on 55 carries. Lamon Muldrow was San Jose State’s leading rusher against Cal Poly with 184 yards on 20 carries. Muldrow’s total is the most by a Spartan since Yonus Davis gained 184 yards on 23 carries in the 2006 win over Stanford.
