WHO WE ARE
The Order of Sparta is the organization of former SJSU student-athletes and coaches. It represents all intercollegiate sports. The Order of Sparta administers the SJSU Sports Hall of Fame, provides special events for current and former student-athletes, and publishes a membership directory.
San José State University takes tremendous pride in the outstanding tradition of intercollegiate athletic competition that has been a part of our institution for over 100 years. Since the first team took the field in 1890 (baseball), thousands of individuals have proudly represented the University as student-athletes and coaches. Each has contributed to the Spartan Pride of today.
The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics created the Order of Sparta in 1999 for all SJSU former student-athletes and coaches. Membership is open to everyone who has coached or been a member of any team, past or present, sponsored by the athletic department. Graduation from SJSU is not a requirement.
The annual membership fee is $75. All monies are used for the enhancement and operation of The Order. The organization is not a fund-raiser for the athletic department. Our first mailing in 1999 was sent to 1000 former student-athletes, coaches, and athletic support staff. There are many more who qualify for membership. Your help to expand our database is welcomed. Tell us where you and other former athletes are located.

Purpose
The Order of Sparta provides San Jose State University's former athletes and coaches a connection to Spartan Athletics, to each other, and outreach to current student-athletes.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
- Support and promote the intercollegiate athletics program of San José State University.
- Establish and facilitate communication among current and former student-athletes and coaches, and the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.
- Sponsor and administer the San José State University Sports Hall of Fame.
- Provide special events and activities for current and former student-athletes and coaches.
- Publish a membership directory for Order members.
- Maintain a comprehensive database.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors is comprised of dues paying members of the Order of Sparta. This volunteer group represents the membership and leads our organization by establishing policy and procedures that are in line with our Mission Statement, and are consistent with the policies and procedures of the University, San Jose State Athletics, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The Order of Sparta was founded by former San Jose State athletes for former men and women athletes and coaches. Our primary purpose was to re-establish and maintain the San Jose State Sports Hall of Fame. Since our formation in 1999 we have inducted 78 men and women and 5 teams into our Hall of Fame, which is currently housed in the Koret Athletic Training Center on South Campus.
With our current membership close to 400 former athletes and coaches, we have been able to assist current and past teams in hosting team reunions. This has been a very rewarding and successful means of keeping former players in touch with their sport and the University. If you would like to help organize an event for your team or sport, let us know. Get involved. Reconnect with your University!
