Las Vegas, Nev. --- The San Jose State women's tennis team had three wins in singles play and took the doubles point for a 4-3 victory over #58-ranked UNLV. Sophomores Klaudia Boczova, ranked #58-nationally in singles, Julianna Bacelar and Jessica Willett won in singles play for the Spartans (6-3). Bacelar and Willett both posted three-set
wins and Bacelar's 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Iren Kotseva clinched the match for San Jose State. Playing at number six, Willett defeated UNLV's Anett Ferenczi-Bako in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 and gave the Spartans a 3-2 lead in the team scoring. San Jose State started the contest winning two of three in doubles for the first point of the match. It was the first time in four matches the Spartans came away with the doubles point. "We had a great match today," said head coach Sylvain Malroux about the win over UNLV (3-3) and the Spartans first triumph over a nationally-ranked team since a victory over Northern Arizona on February 23, 2000. "We all fought really hard and from the doubles to the singles we played well. It was a wonderful team effort." The Spartans play again on Sunday, February, 24 as they travel to Stockton, Calif. to go up against the University of the Pacific. San Jose State vs UNLV |
