#23-Spartans Begin Busy 2nd Half Of Season

San Jose, Calif. --- After a month of training, the #23-nationally-ranked San Jose State University Women's Swimming and Diving team travels south for four meets starting Friday, January 4 through Sunday, January 6. 

On Friday, the Spartans (2-1)  are in Bakersfield, Calif., for dual meets against Western Athletic Conference opponents CSU Bakersfield (3-1) and Northern Colorado (2-1). The meet at the Hillman Aquatics Complex starts at 11:00 a.m.

2012 WAC Swimmer of the Year Marisa DeWames leads the Spartans. She has the conference's best times this season in the 50 (22.80) and 100 (49.52) freestyles. Darcie Anderson in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.69) and Julia Craddock in the 200 butterfly (1:59.92) and 200 (2:01.91) and 400 (4:17.55) individual medleys are two more Spartans boasting the best time in their respective events.

CSU Bakersfield's Michaela Paige has the top conference time in the 500 free (4:55.66).

San Jose State then travels to San Diego to participate in the University of San Diego Relay Invitational on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. The two teams will battle each other in 10 relay races.

To end the week, the Spartans take on UC San Diego in a non-conference meet on January 6. The meet with the Tritons, ranked third in NCAA Division II, begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Canyonview Pool.
