San Jose State University is seeking a new head football coach following Mike MacIntyre accepting a similar position at the University of Colorado. MacIntyre completed three seasons with the Spartans compiling a 16-21 win-loss record in his first head coaching position in his 20-plus year coaching career. In 2012, San Jose State completed the regular season with a 10-2 win-loss record, is listed #24 in the final Bowl Championship Series standings and is ranked #24 in the Associated Press and USA Today coaches' polls. "We had several weeks of dialogue and wanted to keep Mike at San Jose State," says San Jose University's athletics director Gene Bleymaier. "We'll have an announcement in the next 24-48 hours regarding who will coach our team in the (Military) Bowl game (on December 27). "We will work to find a new coach as quickly as possible. We will look for the best person who can pick up where Coach MacIntyre left off. "We want to thank Mike (MacIntyre) for the tremendous job that he did. He turned the program around and did it the right way with character kids and by stressing academics. Mike provided us with a nice model moving forward for our next head coach to follow. "We wish Mike, Trish (his wife) and his family all the best and thank them for their hard work and dedication to Spartan Athletics." |
