Senior Julia Craddock and junior Bené Benwikere have been named the November San Jose State Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by Toyota Scion. Craddock helped lead her team to a #23 national ranking. The Litchfield Park, Ariz., native was named the November 12 - 18 WAC Swimmer of the Week after she set two school records in the 200 IM and the 400 IM at the Arena Invitational. She was the only San Jose State swimmer to compete in three individual championship finals after a sixth-place 200 butterfly finish. In four November wins, Benwikere was credited with 26 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions, three pass break ups and a fumble recovery. He moved into third place nationally in pass interceptions and tied a San Jose State single-game record with three interceptions in the Louisiana Tech victory. For his performance in that game, Benwikere was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week. In its 54th year, the Spartan Foundation is the scholarship fund-raising organization for San José State Athletics. Fundraising efforts help to offset scholarship costs of over $4-million annually for the 400+ student-athletes who compete on 16 NCAA teams representing the University, and the city of San Jose. More than 1,000 alumni, friends and fans of San José State Athletics contribute to the Spartan Foundation annually. Tax-deductible gifts to the Spartan Foundation are vital to the continued success of San José State Athletics, as we receive no state financial support for our scholarship programs. All new members of the Spartan Foundation receive an exclusive "TOP RECRUIT" hat. To sign up today call (408) 924-1720 or email spartanfoundation@sjsu.edu. In honor of the outstanding achievement, Toyota Scion will be making a donation to the San Jose State Student-Athlete Foundation. Toyota Scion is a proud supporter of Spartan Athletics. Go Spartans! |
