El Paso, Tex. -- Senior Connor Covington led the San Jose State men's golf team by shooting a 67 (-5) in the final round of the Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational in El Paso, Tex., on October 27. The Spartans finished in 9th place shooting 303-301-278-882 (+18) on the 7,307-yard par 72 Butterfield Trail Golf Club.
Covington had a eagle and six birdies on his scorecard today. His round helped the Spartans make a 23-stroke turnaround from their lowest team-score yesterday. Covington finished tied for 13th place. Freshman Cody Blickensderfer was also tied for 13th place after he fired a three-under par 69 in the final round. Blickensderfer shot 73-75-69-217 (+1) for the tournament and had four birdies in the final round. Justin Estrada also had an eagle today putting it in the cup on his second shot at the 343-yard par 4 15th hole. Estrada went on to shot 71 (-1) for the day and finished tied for 41st place on the player leader board. Daniel Semmler finished the tournament in a tie for 62nd place, shooting 78-81-71-230 (+14) and Taylor Bromley was 67th with rounds of 83-75-76-234 (+18). Idaho's Gordon Webb took the individual medalist honors shooting 70-68-70-208 (-8). His play helped the Vandals to a team victory with a 54-hole team score of 851 (-13). San Jose State has one more tournament remaining in their fall season. They tee it up in The Gifford Collegiate Championship held at CordeValle Country Club in San Martin, Calif., on November 5-7.
