Fairfax, Calif. -- San Jose State University shot back-to-back even-par rounds of 284 on the first day of the Alister Mackenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif., on October 15.

After the first 36 holes the Spartans are in 11th place out of 16 on the team leader board. GolfStat's #1-ranked California leads the tournament after shooting 35-under par on the 6,759-yard par 71 Meadow Club. 

Justin Estrada's second round of 66 (-5) was the highlight of the day for San Jose State. He went even on the first 18 with an eagle on the par-five first hole. Then Estrada made four birdies in a row, closing with five birdies in the last six holes en route to a 66. It's a career-low round for Estrada whose previous low was a 67 in the final round of the 2011 Alister MacKenzie Invitational. 

"I thought Justin played great," said San Jose State head coach John Kennaday. "He stepped up today and played really well."

Daniel Semmler was also under par today shooting 69-71-140 (-2). He made four birdies in his second round and moved up to a tie for 24th on the player leader board. 

Connor Covington, in a tie for 38th, shot 71-72-143 (+1). Taylor Bromley shot 73-75-148 (+6) and is tied for 64th. Cody Blickensderfer had two rounds of 75 for a nine-over par 150.

California's Brandon Hagy is the individual leader after going 16-under par on the first 36 holes.

"I was encouraged by what I saw from our guys today," Kennaday said. "The scores don't quite reflect what we can do yet, but I think they will."

The final round of the 54-hole Alister Mackenzie Invitational begins Tuesday with tee times on the 10th hole starting at 7:45 a.m. and off the first hole at 8:00 a.m. Live stats are available by clicking here.
