San Jose, Calif. - Two Spartans, former women's basketball coach Sharon Chatman and former men's soccer player C.J. Brown, were honored recently for their athletic career accomplishments.  Chatman was inducted into the De Anza College Hall of Fame and Brown into Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire's Ring of Fire.

Sharon Chatman

Chatman, a San Jose State Sports Hall of Famer who coached the Spartans from 1977 to 1986, still holds the programs all-time wins record at 143.  Three of the players she recruited and coached at San Jose State have also been inducted into the Spartans Sports Hall of Fame; Elinor Banks, Karen Mason and Wanda Thompson.

Prior to joining the Spartans, she spent two seasons at De Anza College compiling a 61-3 record.  Both her Dons' squads (1974-75 and 1975-76) were Coast Conference champions and won the State Championship.

C.J. Brown

Brown's San Jose State career ran from 1994 to 1997; twice he received All-Conference recognition.

He joined the Fire in 1998 as a first-round MLS supplemental draft pick and ended his 13-year career in 2010. He played for only one club and helped the Fire capture six domestic championships, retiring as one of the most respected and consistent center backs in MLS history.

Brown logged a club-record 372 appearances in a Fire jersey and holds the club record with 25,738 minutes played. He also holds club records for MLS (296), playoff (35) and U.S. Open Cup (25) appearances. He won one MLS Cup (1998), four U.S. Open Cups and the 2003 Supporters' Shield.

In addition to his standout MLS career, Brown caught the attention of the U.S. National Team program, making 15 "caps" for the Red, White & Blue's senior squad between 1998 and 2003.
