Irvine, Calif.-----For the second day in a row and the fourth time in February, the San Jose State University women's water polo team split a pair of matches in tournament competition. The #9-ranked Spartans finished in 11th place out of 16 teams at the UC Irvine Invitational defeating #13-UC Santa Barbara, 12-10, but lost to #16-Loyola Marymount, 10-9, in their morning match. Sophomore Timi Molnar was San Jose State's leading scorer on the final day of the tournament with six goals, three in each match. Her final goal in the Loyola Marymount match tied the score at 9-9 with 0:34 remaining. However, the Lions scored the game-winner with 0:03 left. Molnar became the second Spartan in as many days to reach the 100 career goal mark with her third score in the Loyola Marymount contest. In the Cal State Bakersfield win on February 23, senior Anna Natalizio became the 15th player in school history to score 100 career goals. After scoring three times in the final two UC Irvine Invitational matches, Natalizio and Molnar each have 103 career scores. San Jose State is off until March 9 when the Spartans begin Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play at #1-ranked Stanford, in a 1:00 p.m. contest at the Avery Aquatic Center.
