Tempe, Ariz. --- The San Jose State University women's tennis team fell to #35-ranked Arizona State University, 7-0, in a non-conference dual match.
The only win for the Spartans (5-3) came at #2 doubles. Klaudia Boczova and Jessica Willett defeated Joanna Smith and Ebony Panoho, 8-3. Boczova, ranked 58th in the February 12 ITA national singles rankings, lost to Jacqueline Cako of Arizona State (4-1) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. It was the first singles loss for the current two-time Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week since the season opener at UC Irvine on January 20. Sabastiani Leon Chao was the only Spartan to win a set in singles. Playing #2-singles, Leon Chao split the first two sets with Leighann Sahagun, winning a second-set tiebreaker, 11-9, but she then lost a super tiebreaker, 10-3. The Spartans travel to Las Vegas, Nev., on February 15 to compete against UNLV. The match begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Fertitta Tennis Complex located on the UNLV Campus.
