Tempe, Ariz. --- The San Jose State University women's tennis team fell to #35-ranked Arizona State University, 7-0, in a non-conference dual match.

"It was a tough match against a very tough team, said Spartans head coach Sylvain Malroux about his team's second loss of the season to a nationally-ranked team. "Hopefully this will make us better for Friday."

The only win for the Spartans (5-3) came at #2 doubles. Klaudia Boczova and Jessica Willett defeated Joanna Smith and Ebony Panoho, 8-3.

Boczova, ranked 58th in the February 12 ITA national singles rankings, lost to Jacqueline Cako of Arizona State (4-1) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. It was the first singles loss for the current two-time Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week since the season opener at UC Irvine on January 20.

San Jose State's Julianna Bacelar had her winning streak in singles end at seven in a 6-2, 6-4 loss at #5-singles to Joanna Smith.

Sabastiani Leon Chao was the only Spartan to win a set in singles. Playing #2-singles, Leon Chao split the first two sets with Leighann Sahagun, winning a second-set tiebreaker, 11-9, but she then lost a super tiebreaker, 10-3.

The Spartans travel to Las Vegas, Nev., on February 15 to compete against UNLV. The match begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Fertitta Tennis Complex located on the UNLV Campus.
