Los Angeles, Calif. --- San Jose State University senior Amy Kilby completed the final day of the Bruin Diving Invitational with a 13th place finish in platform diving. Kilby finished with a 197.05 score in the preliminary round and was less than five points short of moving on to the championship final. "I felt good about how I dove," Kilby said. "I felt like it prepared for me for conference (WAC Championships) coming up (in February)." Kilby competed against two 2012 U.S. Olympic trial entries and two platform competitors from the 2012 NCAA Championships. She finished two spots ahead of San Diego State's Anna Steiner, who competed at the 2012 NCAA Championships. "We had a lot of practice to focus on the little things and to prep for the invitational and it paid off," stated Kilby about her weekend that included a fifth-place finish in the 3-meter and an eighth-place in the 1-meter dives. Haley Ishimatsu, a 2012 Olympics trial entry from the University of Southern California, won the platform diving with her score of 597.55. Teammate Samantha Adams took second place with a 503.25. "This was a very good intro for Amy and Jessica (Holden) to go into the championship season," said head coach Mark Butcher. Holden competed in the 1 and 3-meter competitions at the Bruin Invitational. "They were able to try new dives and go against big competition." The entire Spartan swimming and diivng team is back in action, Saturday, January 19, 2013 in a dual meet against the University of Nevada.
