SPARTANS HEAD TO ARIZONA FOR FIRST ROAD MEET SATURDAY: San Jose State travels to Arizona for its first road meet of the year after a quality season-opening performance in the NorCal Quad meet. The Spartans are facing three nationally-ranked squads: #6 Stanford, #19 Arizona, and #18 Illinois.

SAN JOSE STATE: The Spartans finished second overall to #6 Stanford at the NorCal Quad meet on Saturday, January 4. due in part to a floor title by junior Julia Greer and a second-place finish in the all-around by sophomore Cami Guyer.

HEAD COACH: San Jose State head coach Wayne Wright is in his 12th season at the helm of the Spartan women's gymnastics team. He has coached all six San Jose State regional qualifying teams and taken three individual competitors to the NCAA Championships.

GREER WINS FLOOR TITLE: Julia Greer opened her season with a floor title at the NorCal Quad meet, posting a score of 9.825.

RECORD NIGHT FOR GUYER: Cami Guyer finished her first-career all-around with a second-place finish. She notched career-highs in the vault (9.800) and bars (9.600) and, in her first try since joining the Spartans, finished with a 9.575 on floor for a total all-around score of 38.600. 

GHER BEGINS SAN JOSE STATE CAREER: Junior transfer Bekah Gher showed Spartan fans why she had such success at Boise State, finishing with team-highs on beam (9.775) and bars (9.650).

ARIZONA WILDCATS: In their first meet of the season, the #19 Wildcats finished third in a quad meet at California. Arizona won both the bars and the vault but finished third and fourth in the beam and floor, respectively. Senior Aubree Cristello took home the meet's vault, beam, and all-around titles, while sophomore Kristin Klarenbach won the floor.    

In his 15 season, the Wildcats are coached by Bill Ryden.

FIGHTING ILLINI: Illinois opens its regular season at Arizona, after the team was projected to finish 18 by the Troester GymInfo Coaches' Preseason Poll. 2013 marks the team's sixth-consecutive preseason top-25 ranking. The Illini met expectations last season, finishing 2012 in the 18 spot after they placed third in the NCAA Champaign Regional and produced an NCAA National Championship qualifier.

Kim Landrus is the head coach of the Fighting Illini in her second season.

STANFORD CARDINAL: Sixth-ranked Stanford is coming off of a strong first-place performance in its season debut at the NorCal Quad meet. The Cardinal recorded the highest team score every event, and at least two gymnasts finished in the top-three in each event. After winning the vault at the NorCal Quad Meet with a 9.950, senior Nicole Dayton was named the PAC-12 Specialist of the Week. Amanda Spinner and Ivana Hong tied for the beam title.

The Cardinal is led by head coach Kristin Smyth, in her 12 season.

TICKETS: Tickets are now on sale for all home meets this season at The Event Center box office. Seating is General Admission at The Event Center, located on the corner of Seventh and San Carlos Streets. Prices are $5 for adults, $3 for youth 12-and-under, and free for San Jose State students with a valid Tower ID. Groups of 20 or more can pay the youth price of $3 if tickets are ordered by the last business day prior to the meet.

Tickets are available at the door. All doors to the facility open 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to every home meet. The Event Center is located on the corner of Seventh and San Carlos Streets on the San Jose State campus. Fans can park on campus in the Fourth Street Garage. A parking permit can be purchased in the garage for $5.00.

SPARTAN GYMNAST NOTES:

Amy Bellingham earned a 9.475 score on vault in her first meet as a collegiate at the NorCal Quad meet.

Kiley Field recorded a 9.625 on beam in her first meet of the season at the NorCal Quad meet.

Bekah Gher finished with a team-high 9.775 score on beam and uneven bars (9.650) in her San Jose State debut.

Hannah Gilbert competed on vault in her collegiate debut, recording a score of 9.700.

Julia Greer won the floor title at the NorCal Quad meet with a score of 9.825.

Cami Guyer finished her first-career all-around with a second-place finish at the NorCal Quad meet. She notched career-highs in the vault (9.800) and bars (9.600) and, in her first try since joining the Spartans, finished with a 9.575 on floor for a total all-around score of 38.600. 

Cassandra Harrison competed on vault (9.000), bars (9.650), and floor (9.625) at the NorCal Quad meet.

Jasmine Holmes made her collegiate debut at the NorCal Quad meet with a 9.775 score on vault, the second-best score on the Spartans.

Alyssa Kaschak recorded a 9.575 on bars at the NorCal Quad meet, her inaugural collegiate meet.

Victoria Lark competed in her first-career meet at the NorCal Quad, earning a 9.500 score on floor.

Tauny Shearer earned a 9.750 on beam at the NorCal Quad meet.

Alyssa Telles-Nolan opened her senior season at the NorCal Quad meet with a bars score of 9.050 and a floor score of 9.625.

Marissa Unpingco began her San Jose State career with a score of 9.050 on bars and a beam score of 9.675 at the NorCal Quad meet.
