DENVER - San Jose
State's Marisa DeWames and Amy Kilby have been named the Western Athletic
Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Dec. 31- Jan. 6.
DeWames, a senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif. (Westlake H.S.), finished first in
the 100 freestyle in the Spartans' dual meet against CSU Bakersfield and
Northern Colorado. She was on three winning relay teams at the University of
San Diego Relay Invitational. DeWames then continued the weekend, setting two
individual pool records in SJSU's 183-109 victory at UC San Diego. Her 200
freestyle (1:50.69) and the 100 freestyle (51.49) became the fastest recorded
at UCSD's Canyonview Pool. DeWames anchored the 200 freestyle relay team
that set a new pool record with a time of 1:39.49.
Kilby, a senior from Oklahoma City, Okla. (Putnam City North H.S.), swept the
weekend boards in the Spartans' diving competitions. She recorded two
first-place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 268.50 and
289.40, respectively in the wins against CSU Bakersfield and Northern Colorado.
Kilby went repeated in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving against UC San Diego on
Sunday scoring 261.41 and 282.15, respectively.
This is the second time this season, DeWames and Kilby were honored by the WAC in the same week. The San Jose State duo were recognized following the Spartans' dual meet win over UC Davis.
