            Take a look back at San Jose State University Athletics' spectacular year in 2012. There were so many terrific accomplishments and events that highlighting one dozen (12) is not enough.

February 25 - Women's swimming wins it first conference championship in school history; Head coach Sage Hopkins & junior Marisa DeWames are honored.

March 5 - Tim La Kose is named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Coach of the Year

April 7 - Women's tennis wins a school-record 12 consecutive dual matches.

April 7 - Gymnast Thomasina Wallace and women's gymnastics coach Wayne Wright are honored as the NCAA West Regional Gymnast and Coach of the Year, respectively.

April 25 - Women's golf makes it four WAC Championships in a row. John Dormann is the Co-Coach of the Year.

May 2 - Men's golf wins WAC Championship; Jay Myers is the medalist and the WAC Golfer of the Year; John Kennaday WAC Coach of the Year.

May 6 - San Jose State accepts an invitation to join the Mountain West

May 10 - San Jose State NCAA champion Ron Davis is named the head coach for men's and women's cross country and women's outdoor track and field

May 24 - Gene Bleymaier named athletics director after Tom Bowen accepts University of Memphis A.D. job.

June 14 & June 26 - Volleyball (995), women's soccer (972) and football (959) are among nine teams to hit an all-time APR high; women's golf & women's swimming earn APR Public Recognition Awards

June 27 & June 25 - Second-team All-WAC outfielder Michelle Cox is one of several Spartans competing in major summer competitions. Five San Jose State swimmers head to the U.S. Olympic Team trials.

June 29 - Dani Curran becomes the Spartans first four-time All-American in women's water polo and is honored along with teammates Meagan Minson and Anna Natalizio.

July 4 & September 5 - Sam Piraro retires after 25 seasons as baseball coach and Dave Nakama is appointed as his successor.

October 26 - San Jose State honors eight Spartan greats and two football teams at the 2012 Sports Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony.

November 21 & November 7 - San Jose State is ranked #23-nationally in the Endless Pools Top-25 Division I women's swimming and diving poll. The Spartans reached the top-25 for the first time in school history on November 7.

 

November 24 - San Jose State wins 10 regular-season games for the first time in 25 years with a 52-43 win over Louisiana Tech.

November 25 - San Jose State is listed in the Bowl Championship Series standings for the first time in school history.

November 29 & December 6 - Soccer defender Nick Murphy and football defensive end Travis Johnson are Capital One Academic All-America honorees.

 

November 30 - BCS#25-San Jose State accepts a bid to the Military Bowl in Washington, D.C.

December 2 - For the first time, San Jose State finishes a regular season in football listed in the BCS standings and is ranked in the Associated Press and USA Today coaches polls Top-25.

December 11 - Kent Baer named interim head football coach for the Military Bowl after Mike MacIntyre accepted the University of Colorado job on December 10.

December 17 - Ron Caragher named new head football coach.

December 21 - The NCAA applauds San Jose State for forging ahead academically and achieving success in football at the same time.

December 27 - San Jose State wins the Military Bowl.

December 31 - Men's basketball opens WAC play with two road wins for the first time as a conference member.
