|O'Reilly Hits .560 In Spartan Win|
San Jose-For the sixth time this season and second in three matches, Mary Alice O'Reilly hit above .500 to lead the San Jose State volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Louisiana Tech Thursday night in a Western Athletic Conference match at Spartan Gym.
O'Reilly led the team by hitting .560 with a team-best 16 kills on 25 attempts and just two hitting errors. In all six matches she has hit .500 or better, the Spartans have been victorious. O'Reilly also led the Spartans with four block assists.
Strong serving helped the Spartans in the win as the team had a season-high 13 aces. Blume led the serving attack with a career-best seven aces. Samantha O'Connell added two aces while four others served an ace.
The Spartans outblocked the Lady Techsters, 9-5, with O'Reilly, Michaela Leonard and Alex Akana each recording four blocks. Leonard had one solo block and three assists, while Akana added two solo blocks and two assists.
Defensively, Kiely Pieper led San Jose State with 18 digs, while Blume and O'Connell each had seven digs.
The Spartans won the first two sets 25-13 and 25-19. The third set found the Spartans trailing 19-24, but the team fought back, scoring the next four points and getting to within one a 23-24 before a Clara Vido kill gave Louisiana Tech the third set at 25-23.
The fourth set also found San Jose State trailing 5-3 before 10 consecutive Spartan points gave the team the lead for good at 12-5. Blume served nine consecutive points including two of her seven service aces. O'Reilly put the match away with her 16th kill to win 25-17.
San Jose State improves to 11-12 overall and 7-6 in the WAC. The Spartans return home this Saturday with a match against UT Arlington at 7 p.m. All fans who show a ticket from the San Jose State-Texas State football game will receive free admission.
