|O'Reilly's Hot Hitting Leads Volleyball To Win|
San Jose-Mary Alice O'Reilly hit .577, and Hanah Blume recorded her 11th kill on the final point of the match to give San Jose State a 16-25, 25-22, 25-22, 16-25, 15-8 win over Seattle U., Saturday night in a Western Athletic Conference match at Spartan Gym.
O'Reilly led the team with 17 kills on 26 attempts and hit just two errors. After hitting .167 in the first set (3-2-6), O'Reilly did not have a hitting error in her final 20 attempts over the final four sets. She also had two blocks, two assists and a dig in the win.
Three other Spartans recorded double-digit kills in the win. Alex Akana hit .273 with 12 kills on 22 attempts and six errors. She had a team-best three blocks (1-2) and added six digs and three assists. Blume and Samantha O'Connell each had 11 kills. Blume had her ninth double-double of the season as she had 10 digs.
After losing the first set 25-16, the Spartans won the next two sets by identical scores of 25-22. The team hit .344 in set two with 15 kills and just two errors. Seattle then came back to win the fourth set, 25-16, to send the match to a fifth set.
In the fifth set, Seattle took early leads of 3-1 and 6-3 before the Spartans called a timeout. O'Connell then took control of the set with a kill to make the score 6-4 and then served six consecutive points to give San Jose State a 10-6 that they would not relinquish. Blume put the match away with her 11th kill to give San Jose State a 6-7 overall record and 2-2 mark in the WAC.
San Jose State hosts Pacific in a non-conference match on Tuesday, September 25, at 7 p.m., inside Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets.
