Chicago, Ill.-----The preseason accolades continue for San Jose State University football defensive end Travis Johnson. For the second year in a row, the 6-foot-3, 244-pound senior is listed on the Hendricks Award Watch List. Now in its 11th year, the award is named after the one-time Oakland Raiders All-Pro defensive end that was a three-time first-team All-America at the University of Miami. Johnson is one of 40 defensive ends listed on the 2012 Hendricks Award Watch List. He is the only player listed from a Western Athletic Conference, Mountain West, Sun Belt Conference, Conference USA and Mid-American Conference school. Selection criteria involve on-field performance, leadership, contributions to school and community and academic achievements. A three-time academic All-Western Athletic Conference award winner, Johnson was recently named the 2012 WAC preseason Defensive Player of the Year at the conference's annual football preview in Las Vegas. Since July 1, Johnson also was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch Lists. In 2011, the San Jose State defensive end was a first-team All-WAC pick after being credited with 73 tackles, 9.5 quarterback sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. |
