San Jose—Rachel Finnegan, a 5-9 point guard from Turlock High School, and Britney Bradley, a 5-8 guard from College of the Canyons, signed National Letters-of-Intent to play for the San Jose State women’s basketball team. Spartan head coach Pam DeCosta made the announcement.
Finnegan averaged 15.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists and four steals her senior year as Turlock finished with a 24-4 record. Twice, she was named the Central California Conference Player of the Year and was a 2009 All-District selection. Finnegan helped lead her team to two consecutive CCC championships after the school had not won a single title in 25 years. As a junior, Finnegan averaged 12 points and seven rebounds per game as she was named the 2007-08 Modesto Bee Player of the Year.
“Rachel is a true point guard and a key that has been missing in our program,” said DeCosta. “She looks to pass first and shoot second and is a hard worker on and off the court. She can get the ball to our scorers and is a leader on the court. We are excited to have her join our program.”
Bradley played two seasons for the College of the Canyons. Twice, she was named a first team All-Western Conference selection and averaged 13.4 points and 4.7 assists per game this past season. Bradley led the Cougars to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons and two conference championships. She scored a season-best 31 points versus San Jose City College where she was 11-for-20 from the field including 5-for-8 from three-point range. She played her prep ball at Hart High School in Newhall.
“Britney is a wing player whose mentality is to score whenever possible,” said DeCosta. “She gives us another scoring option on the floor as a mid-range shooter who also likes to slash to the basket.”
