After receiving the second-highest score in school history last weekend, the Spartan women’s gymnastics team returns home this Friday night to face Western Athletic Conference foe and rival Sacramento State.  The meet begins at 7 p.m., in Spartan Gym, located in Yosh Uchida Hall on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets.

This meet is also designated as “Flip For a Cure” meet as the Spartans hope to raise awareness of breast cancer.  Both teams will be wearing pink leotards, and fans to the meet are encouraged to wear pink in support of the cause.

San Jose State enters the meet ranked 28th in the country with a 193.687 average.  The bars team is 17th with a 48.669 average, while the vault team is 24th with a 48.7694 average.  Individually, Thomasina Wallace is 43rd in the all-around at 39.000 and 11th on the bars with a 9.856 average.  Veronica Porte is tied for 19th on the floor with a 9.850 average.

The Spartans are 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the WAC after winning at Seattle Pacific last week with a 195.400 team score.  Sacramento State is 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the WAC.  The Hornets lost a very close home meet to Illinois State, 192.825-192.800 last Friday evening.

The two teams have split dual meets the past three years.  In two of the past three years, the home team has won the dual meet.  In 2007, the exact opposite happened, with the Hornets winning in Spartan Gym and the Spartans posting one of its best in school history at the Hornets Nest.

Live stats will be available throughout the meet on www.sjsuspartans.com.  After each rotation, video of the Spartans will be uploaded to the live stat page as well.

Individual meet ticket prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth 12-and-under. Youth in their Club Gymnastics shirts or sweats will be $1.00. Seating is General Admission at Spartan Gym. All doors to the facility open 60 minutes prior to every home meet. Current San Jose State students in possession of a valid Tower ID card are granted complimentary admission.
